Dinnet Removal.

I know been posted before but could not find. Has any one removed the dinette and installed recliners in a truck camper. I have a 2008 Arctic Fox 990
  • You camper has to be a "basement model" that the dinette is not an integral part of the camper in order for it to be practical to remove and replace with seating.

On mine, the dinette is part of the "wing" on the passenger side, for example. If I tore it out there would be a large gaping hole in the side of the camper, and it would probably collapse, for example. It's the most God-awful place to sit that man has ever created.
  • We took out the dinette in our Lance. It was the only thing in the slide with nothing to block the installation of chairs. Even with the chairs in the recline position these is enough room to walk sideways around our feet. We have a 2006 Lance 921 with a side entry. We are in it all winter in a warm climate.
  • Recliners in an AF 811 or 990 will be very hard to do, due to the fact that there's the furnace just aft of the fridge, and below the current forward bench of the dinette.
  • If you go onto Natcoa and ask about Snowbird/Snowriver campers, some of them were made with two recliners in the slideout. They called it Command Seating.
  • Wife and I absolutely hate the U-shaped dinette. Not much we can do though. I really don't see the sofa option being much more comfortable.
  • I don't know why more truck campers aren't offered with a couch/fold up table option.
  • I have a 1150 AF and the heater is under the forward bench seat so that might be an issue, the aft side is a drawer and outside storage and mine has a battery under that side.

When I go mountain biking or fishing I get back to the camper to find the wife sitting in the middle on a lawn chair, says the dinette hurts the back after a while so I can see where you're going with this.

    Good luck on the idea.

    Bill
