Direct TV Cable Help

Hi, I recently purchased a 2014 Palomino Canyon Cat and want to have my portable Direct TV dish set up in it. problem is, there is a satellite dish on the roof. Will that dish work in place of mine? reason I am asking is that I need to have RG6 cable for Direct TV and I don't see any way to get a new cable inside. Any ideas? Thanks. New to RV camping.

  • There are several comments in that article that leads me to believe that the author has no idea what they are talking about. The biggest being some claim about HD operating below 37MHz. That makes no sense whatsoever.

Anyway, for short runs you can get away with running L-Band with RG-59. It's just not preferable.
  • Ok, it only has the wall connector. The other one is wired directly into the dish on the roof. Any way around that?
  • The one on your RV already will work just fine. Try it. I used to use the smaller cable for even long runs and never noticed any difference after I switched to RG6 after reading about it on here. Sometimes I still use both if I have a long run to the portable sat dish. Still works fine.
  • Thanks for the info. Again, new to this. Running the cables underneath, do you drill a hole and run it up into the wall? I have a center entertainment unit.

And I was reading the instructions to set it up and they specify the RG6. The one that is on my RV is a continuous cable from the satellite to the wall mount.
  • Tough one but you can tie piece together an RG6 cable, splice it to the old one and pull it through. It's not easy. You can also do like us and thread it through the floor, tie it to the frame and run it ro the rear and up along the ladder.
