LOL no you definitely don't need it for weight distribution. I think you're wise though, if not for anything else, to be using it for sway control.
MY my advice to the OP would be to get a WDH. The Expedition is a 1/2 truck, right, unlike the Excursion? Your trailer is light, but a little bit of properly set up weight distribution along with sway control would be a wise purchase.
