Thanks everyone for the input. It appears that the consensus is "You don't *need* it, but you'll be happier if you have it."
Being that we're going to be hauling this rig around for 1.5 months on our first trip I think I'll spend the coin to get an Equal-i-zer and consider it an expense on peace-of-mind. Thanks!
