Hi. What to carry to help a void brake downs?
Fan Belt(s).
Anti-freeze (50/50) mix One Gallon.
Transmission Fluid (2) qt.
Engine Oil (2) qt.
A set of wiper blades.
Rags
Tools
And a large basket of Luck.
On trailer trips I carried a lot of this stuff. I recall losing a fan belt on our tow car, a '76 Chevy with 350 V8, back in the early 90's. Was able to get it replaced. GM dealer said it was the last one in stock. Looked for a spare as we drove through Minnesota and part of Wisconsin.
Finally after many stops, got one at a Napa. Put it in my emergency kit in the trunk, for possible future use.
My reasoning...sometimes you can find a mechanic in a small town, but oftentimes a simple part like a fan belt and or supply consumables (vehicle fluids) may not be easily available.
So I would carry stuff like the above...oh also a Clymer or Haynes vehicle shop manual.
Also a socket set, an open ended wrench set, a torque wrench (simple and rugged bending beam), good flash light and breaker bar to give me extra leverage. Also a full size spare for the tow vehicle and trailer.
