This is just my Opinion. My 2 cents.
Long story short. YES!!!! You want a dually. You can spend alot of money to make a srw ACT like a dually, but thats all Act like. Truck manufactures made duallys to handle a heavier payload easier, and safer with a wider foot print. With a dually your just safer to start with and the truck can handle it much better and the wife can even feel comfortable enough to drive. Wouldn't you like to nap a little on a long days drive? I do. With a srw you need more distance on the road to handle a controlled swerve, than a dually, and triffic on the road has NO CONCERN about you. They will not give you a inch. Swerving for Road debree, deer, wind, wind sheer from semis, semis, and other autos are all things to constantly watch closely, because you will need more time to react with a srw than a dually.
I asked this same question about a year ago, and someone told me this.
SRW- two hands white knuckled on the wheel all day long will were on your nerves, and ruin your trip.
DUALLY- one hand on the wheel and very little stress.
I would suggest a dually with swaybar control, and a upper and lower overload stableload system from torklift, or airbags. Good "E" rated heavy payload capacity tires. Most people love Michellins. Good tires, wear like iron.
If your going boondocking, offroading 4X4 with your t/c I would maybe question a dually though. They would tend to sink in sand, mud, and rocks tend to get stuck between dualls.
Since your have no truck yet I would suggest getting a flatbed for your truck and putting storage compartments on the outside like i did. I have about 110% more storage space that way. I'll send a pic. If You have any questions about it pm me.
Good Luck looking for your RIG. Post a pic when you get the Rig put together. Have fun.
