Please use the WD Hitch. Your 1/2 ton might be capable enough, but for the safety of you, your family, and the rest of the people on the road - please use the WD Hitch and ensure it is set up safely.

Most definitely, WD hitches, properly set up will gain you at least 15% improvement in fuel economy...especially on the downhills vs. uphills (sarcasm intended :D)
