Not only I could see water tanks in several RVs, but lately I parted old Lance and pulled the tanks for other uses.
When dump tanks did have some solids build ups, the water tank was perfectly clean even in my 3 years of ownership I recall draining it only once.
But I live in dry climate, where even I've been checking for algees in tanks, including diesels, have never been able see them.
Coming back to "factory stuff" during camper demolition I collected about 1/2 gal of sawdust, cut wires and package debris from camper cavities.

We brush teeth and wash dishes with water from the tank, but use bottled water to drink and make coffee. Gallon jugs of drinking water are under $.90 in my area and typically we go through a gallon every other day, so this is not a big expense and we have room for eight jugs...

We occasionally drink water from the holding tank and always wash dishes and brush teeth with that water. However, we usually buy bottled water to take with us because it’s more convenient when walking/driving.

Bottled water used to taste better than our previous homes city water. But, our water is great at our current house. We’ll have to see if we skip bottled water in the future.

It’s hard to beat good well water at the top of a ridge like we are. There are no properties with a higher elevation to pollute our well.

When I was a kid there was a trap door on the kitchen floor, under it was a well. The well had a pump in it that pumped the water to the sink. The well was walled with stones stacked loose so water could seep in. When I got my first house and had kids we got our water from a spring with a pump in the woods with a cover over it. It had moss on the stones, I think that kept the dirt out. YES I drink the water from the tank.

Sanitizing a FW tank "may" kill off the bad stuff in the slime---not sure. Regardless, we're not willing to take a chance. We always drink bottled water when we're on the road.

Our trailer is 6 years old and I fill the water as needed. I've never drained it or sanitized it and yes we drink from it. No issues.

Just did last night. Tasted horrible. Didnt want to walk into the house and use the reverse osmosis. Im good for about a gallon a day. More when working in summer heat.

I don't drink water when camping period.
Having dually I have no problem to load more adequate liquid.
That said, we always used tank water for consumption. Never sanitize the tank and usually, when in California I would have water in tank over the winter.
In Las Vegas now, we have very hard water, so I dump it for winter storage.
Our last camper has build-in water filter, so going to Alaska last summer, I bought new cartridge for it.
In the past I would cary Brita water pitcher for situation when water might not be safe.
Still remember camping years ago where campground water had nice brown color. Ironically the lake and campground belong to Sacramento Water District.
