Yes, I don't abuse my diesel!
I let it idle with Exhaust brake on, once hitched. It idles while lifting the landing gear, pulling the the chocks and doing the final walk around. Normally it gets to at least 140, most of the time to normal 190. Then I am good to go.
I do the same when it comes to shut down, don't turn off until the EGT is at 300 degrees.
If it is cold out (less than 40 degrees) I will plug in the engine heater, NOT that it is needed to start, I have started easily at about 5 degrees. I use the heater as when very clod early diesels sound like they falling apart! It for the neighbors not the engine. :B
