On the new trucks idling is supposed to be bad for the exhaust system, you'll notice that they track idle hours on your info panel. I start it up and by the time we're done fiddling around hooking up and a final walk around, I just drive off. Never had a problem.
The one time I did see a problem was hauling the 5ver up to the top of Utah 24 to the pass east of Escalante. We pulled out at the viewing area and I just shut the truck off and we looked around for 5 minutes. Getting back in the truck I got a high temp alarm. Started it and let it idle for a couple minutes and the temp came right down. So you need to be careful after a steep climb to let the truck idle for a couple minutes then before shutting it down to let it cool down.
