My 7.3 does not like doing heavy work when it's cold. I give it about 5 minutes to warm up before pulling the fifth wheel out, then take it nice and slow out of the CG. By the time I hit the highway, it's usually warmed up and ready to pull.
If it's been below 40 or 50 the night before, I'll plug in the block heater for about 4 hours before hitching up and pulling out. That helps tremendously.
My truck has the same engine and transmission as the OP, but with my 4.88 rear end, I can climb hills without much difficulty. What's your axle ratio, Shadows4?
