Actually my old Monaco ISC recommended getting temps up "near" operating temp in the manual before heading out. But that would never warm up no matter how long you idle in cold weather. But I did have to let it idle for a few minutes to air up before I could pull the jacks and head down the road. But I always left that to the last step of packup.
On my truck with the 5er, its pretty much the same way. Once I am ready to hitch up and leave the truck is started, I usually don't turn it off at that point because I am hooking up, doing safety checks and preparing the leave.
I have never had it where the truck fell on its nose before the coolant temps started to come up. Though its a little grumpy if I start moving on a cold brisk 30F morning with only 5-10 minutes of running time.
