The TFL guys choose the Chevy 6.0 gasser as their top pick in the HD gas segment.

I've been looking real hard at the new Rams with the 6.4. Dealer has found me one with a 4.10 too.
From what I've seen the 6.4 specs are very close to the Triton V10 that we all already know to be a real puller.
I'm thinking the 6.4 will not compare at all to my current 6.0.

I recently bought a new to me 2013 ram 2500 with 3.73 and am very satisfied with it. I pull about 7,000 lb TT and it performs excellent. I couldn't find the 6.4 Hemi in my price range. After doing a little research I found the Ram 2500 5.7 Hemi was very competitive with the 2500 6.0 GM and 6.2 Ford 250. Tow ratings, payload, fuel economy, Horse Power, Torque were all very close together. The Ram 6.4 Hemi with 4.10 gear is a game changer in the above mentioned areas. Anyway as most have pointed out buy the one you like the best. People tend to dismiss the 5.7 Hemi since the 6.4 Hemi came on the scene, but it's still a competitive power plant.

For lots of reasons we ended up buying the Chevy and it's a great truck. It gets the job done when you step on it. But, if feels a little sluggish sometimes too. It has 4.10 gears. I don't know what the Ram I drove had.

Yeah, the Chevys are over done to accomplish better fuel economy and seem sluggish. But I can tell you first hand a good tune really wakes up the motor!

I go over these passes often in a 6.0 with 3.73s with 3500 lbs. Of camper in the bed and the Chevy gasser seems to enjoy the work. Reliable drivetrain .

The 2017 HD gas GM trucks will have the 6.2L in it. I don't know the details of that engine. However if it has the DNA of the engine in the half ton. It might really be worth the wait.

As i said earlier i have both. Both trucks mileage drops when towing. The 6.4 gets better mpg empty than the chevy and they both get in the 7-8mpg range towing. I still say it comes down to which one you feel the most comfortable sitting in and driving.

I agree with you 100% chevman... I guess my point is that it is one road in the entire country, a road that is pretty rarely used by RVer's (in the grand scheme of things). The 6.4 underwhelmed on that one road. That is important ***IF*** you often drive that road. If you rarely drive it, it doesn't matter.

I bet that 6.4 tows with better mileage and better speed than any gas engine from 10 years ago. Everyone that talks about taking that route talks about how beautiful it is. Maybe Ram agrees and intentionally engineered the 6.4 to take advantage of sightlines and slow it down...;)

This. The trucks were loaded within 90%of their max ratings. The dodge had 2700# more to tow than the rest.
