To specifically answer your questions: The new body style Ram "heavy duty" truck is a big improvement in body quality and interior vs. the older Dodge trucks. That said, such improvements in quality and components is not cheap. Mechanically, they're sound and many owners brag on their engines and transmissions.
I would be proud to own one, however there are fewer dealerships to handle parts and service. My local Dodge/Jeep/Ram dealership is on its 3rd owner in the last 3 years, and the nearest other dealership's 40 miles away.
I still love my 12 year old SuperDuty F250. The value of a diesel 3/4 ton-1 ton truck is in the extremely long life span and they're relatively trouble free.
