Dodge folks... 6.7 question

I am pretty sure I narrowed down which TV I am going to shop for. After much due diligence it is either a 06 or newer GM with a Duramax, but I decided to go dually, and I have zero need for a 8'bed.....
OR
a 06-07.5 Dodge MEGA cab with the 5.9... I would love the 6 speed trans (auto) but they didn't come around until the 6.7.... So, if I were to go a little newer and get the 6.7, do the EGR delete, am I golden? Or is there anything more? Or should I just limit myself to the 5.9. My budget is $20ish. I know I could go to a Cummins site, but figure there's enough knowledge here.

Sitting is really really hard on diesels. Your 20K budget is going to get you either a totally worn out 06-07 or a 03 maybe 04 and thats about it. 5.9L Cummins command a huge premium if you can find one in decent shape. My low miles 07 would still sell for 35K as it sits all day if it were for sale.

I am finding plenty nice ones (up to 08's) for under $22... Many with 100k on them, I'm not worried about that part. 170,000 miles on one of these doesn't scare me at all, there are tons of them out there with twice that on them. I am pretty sure the MEGA cab with that tiny bed is keeping the numbers down. The same trucks with a 8' bed and crew cab is definitely bring more money... Good for me.

If you can find a 06 or 07 5.9 with low miles for a good price i would jump on it.

My only use for this will be to tow the RV, 9 months a year it will be in storage

  • I am on my second 6.7. I had zero issues with my first one, traded it off because it was two wheel drive and wanted a four wheel drive. I did a full delete on the first truck, i will not delete the new truck because the gains are minimal(mpg) while towing. As long as you use the truck like a truck and tow with it, the 6.7 will be fine. Just dont let it sit and idle.
