I have a 99` dodge 4x4 , never had to replace ball joints , still good.
In 2000 the dana 60 front end was changed and the ball joints wear badly , there at different angles and both joints are not weight bearing I`m told , also the axle is wider in 2000 up requiring more offset in the wheels
Also in 2001.5 -2002 there is no axle disconnect , your front end turns all the time to the transfer case
The track bar in all 94 - 2002 dodges have a upper joint that's a bad design , prone to fail , causing wandering and wear of other parts like the drag link and tie rod ends . An easy fix is a lukes link , a rebuild of the stock joint , or a track bar re location bracket and an 03 up track bar
Also a great improvement of any 94 - 02 is a newer type steering box , called a borgeson 680 . Direct bolt on , less turns lock to lock and more progreive gearing improving straight line control of the truck , also along with it you can add a borgeson steering shaft
Also a steering box stabilizer will support the box from flexing at the pitman arm and improve steering
My truck has these improvments and steers great
