It will shift down a lot in hilly areas, and mpg will not be great, but it will pull it without any trouble....
I just bought a new 2500 hemi to pull 8,000 pounds and am not worried....looked at diesels, but cannot justify it for the number of time I tow each year. I had a GMC 6.0 gas, and it did ok, but I hated the truck....
