5.9 12V up to 1998, then
5.9 24V common rail fuel delivery from 1998.5 to 2007, then
6.7 24V common rail in the 2007.5/2008 M/Y, if I'm not mistaken.
I owned a '97 12v and currently have a 2007 24V
That is all correct but they are still common rail, albeit 3rd generation, to this day.
My '97 (2nd gen) was not a common rail, but my '07 (3rd gen) is. ... that is, as I understand it. The '97 was the lower pressure injection system, and I believe that's the discriminator that came with the "common rail" designation - higher rail pressure and different fuel pump system - P1700 pressure pump on early 2nd gen, vs VP44 high pressure pump on late 2nd gen ... so even within the "generations" there were major difference.
