Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel

I have a chevy 2500 HD Gaser. I am looking at a 2500 Doge Ram diesel. Consumer Reports states that the Dodge has reliability issues. Should I have any concerns before I purchase a used Dodge Ram diesel. Thanks

What in particular are they reporting? The Cummins has been made for years and has been reliable when Ford was building junk (6.0L diesel).

I drove the Ford before buying a Dodge. I can tell you that the Ford felt stronger, largely because it has a lot more RPM range. But looking under the hood, it also had a lot more going on. I felt that the better bet was the Cummins with a 3300rpm red line - the same motor that's been built for years.

The only issues that I'm aware of have been issues with hackability of their 3G Wifi system and some mild reprograms. I own a 2015, my buddy owned a 2013 and a 2015. Absolutely no major problems to support so far.

5th wheels are a lot more problematic!
  • sure its a great truck you can haul 30k with it and it will never break down tires will never wear out tires you can go 90 up any pass
  • Well that depends........

YOU have provide very little information

Dodge/Ram has been mfg since 1989 with the Cummins motor

SO which year are YOU interested in??

    Consumer Reports....what a rag
  • really goes to the year, engine, transmission combination. Death wobble Im told is resolved in the new models, 2014 and up... some 2013's have the different front end parts, and some dont, you would have to look to be sure.

I currently have the 07 classic 6.0L gas burner and Im "upgrading" to a 2015 RAM 3500 Mega Cab HO Cummins Diesel/Aisin transmission
