We started off with a 2500 Ram and it pulled our 40' bunkhouse beautifully.
But I wanted a new truck and wife wanted a new trailer so we ended up with a
Ram 3500 Cummins Turbo along with a 42' Sierra front Livingroom.
After owning the two trucks. The 2500 was a great truck pulled great never struggled or had any issues.
The new diesel is amazing. I should have gone with that the first time. Handles the new trailer like nothing. Pulls at 65 with no struggle. We just traveled to upstate Mew York and through the hills she never down shifted and held 65 and at times caught myself at 70.
Definitely go with the diesel.
I don't have experience with the older Rams. My 2500 was a Hemi mega cab and then new one is a 2016. But if they were taken care of mileage shouldn't be an issue.
