Well from 2007.5 to 2012 the Ram suffered from artificial low GVWR and towing capacities. It wasn't until the breakthrough year in 2013, when the numbers matched the capabilities.
I remember there was a couple years the RAM 3500 was not in the FLT King of the Hill, because it didn't have the capacity of Ford and GM. Now Ford needs to run the F450 to compete with the Ram 3500.
Yes, I would consider one for the right price and mileage as I would likely be fine with my 5er, but I believe without looking it up that the 3500 DRW in those years had a GVWR in the 12,000 # range.
