OP,
Good observations in your report. I purchased a new truck last year. After kicking the tires, test driving a RAM and Super Duty I decided on another Super Duty.
Great fuel economy, tremendous pulling power and a spacious cab makes for a great truck. I'm at 30k miles with no issues to date.
Keep in mind in '12 compared to current models, the Chevy is still the same (reliable with a vanilla interior), Ford is basically the same, RAM 68RE tranny and soot clogging issues has now gone to DEF and Aisin tranny (1 ton only) so maybe those issues have finally been put to rest.
Good luck...:B
