Does anyone use an Instant Pot in their TC

Thinking of getting an Instant pot 3 qt for use in our camper. Just wondering if anyone uses one in theirs. Pros Cons. Have a presto multi cooker which I’m so so about it.

  • Yep, new to the IP world.

Everyone recommended the 6qt as it was pretty much the standard and recipes all geared to the 6qt without modes, so got it. To big for just me in the TC, sold it and got the 3qt and like the Goldilocks scenario, the 3qt works just fine.

While I haven't explored it much beyond Rice an HB Eggs, I am looking forward to it. There are many groups/recipes out there.

I was planning on storing it on the corner next to the sink, but now put it in the Cabinet on the other side and that works.

I also got the little steamer vent to keep it from steaming the upper cabinets. It does take power, just like my microwave (doubtful if I can run both at the same time, like AC) so I have to run it with the Generator, no big deal, most things are quick n easy.

Just a heads up, LOL, if hard boiling eggs, make sure they don't have any cracks in them or you'll have a great Halloween Set.. LOL...

Bottom line, I like it, just need to get used to using it. Stored in the cabinet, it's out of the way.

  • What kind of wattage draw are they? I've considered getting one but would need to run it off an inverter so not sure if that's realistic.
  • I cannot imagine what others do when they travel by RV. I have been traveling for 2 1/2 months mainly in national parks and national monuments. I have had electrical hookups only twice in that time period and that was at expensive Oregon State parks along the coast. I avoid any electrical appliances and welcome advise about other options.
  • We use our slow cooker all the time, and have a NuWave induction plate that we use instead of our gas cooktop. Just be aware that most of these are fairly high wattage, and can strain your kitchen plugs circuit. so the rule is generally, one at a time.

    Me 2...
  • Second Chance - thanks for the report. We purchased the 3 qt mini for home, then realized that we could take it with us on the road!
  • We don't have a truck camper, but we have the Instant Pot Mini and absolutely love it. We use it for just about everything except some eggs in a skillet on the stove. My wife adheres to a plant-based, whole food lifestyle (I'm about 85% there) and we use the instant pot to do beans at least once a week. I like the fact that I can use the saute mode to do the onions, garlic and spices with a little olive oil, and then add the beans and water to finish pressure cooking the whole thing in nine minutes. She's getting ready to use the pot today to make homemade chicken noodle soup (she'll make a separate pot for her with just veggies and noodles, too). Since the Instant Pot can be used as a slow cooker, too, we gave away our small Crock Pot and fit the Instant Pot in the same space in the RV.
