Does silicone have any place on a travel trailer?

Some of the silicone is already deteriorating on my 2 year old camper. I had a hard time finding Proflex, but saw that Lexel is available. I contacted the company and they recommended using it on an RV. I have a tube of clear and intend to start periodically replacing the silicone.
I don't think I'd even use it as a bedding compound, either. I ended up with leaks under the lifeline stantions on a prior sailboat.
