Agree with Turtle n Peeps re pets riding in the rear of a pick up. Absolutely, positively not. No way. Living in the south, we tend to see more of that than in the north or west coast, but still feel it's dead wrong.
When we lived in CA our best friend always let his dog ride in the back of his Ranchero - tells you how long ago that was. He had to make a quick defensive maneuver one afternoon and Spot - yes, that was really his name - flew out of the bed and into traffic. Fortunately he only had some scuffs and bruises, the cars nearby stopped in time, but DF was shaken to the core and swore he'd never do it again. And hasn't. I suppose that if you were on a farm and the dog rode from the barn to the field it might be different, but not a chance on a public road.
Even worse when I see a truck barreling down the road with a bunch of kids in the back. No functional brain cells. How would you live with yourself if there were an accident?
