Sometimes the weight distribution system might be to tight and cause in-stability. Sometimes it might have been polyester sidewall tires that are to flexible, and causing the truck to 'wiggle' when trailer hitch can induce sway into the truck.
Anyway if you have a 500 pound hitch and only a total of 3,000 pounds holding the rear axle down, you can induce side to side sway from the trailer, that will go away completely with a 3500 series truck that has a lot more weight on the rear axle, and has LT tires that have much thicker sidewalls, that are stiffer. So the heavy vehicle will always have more stability than the lighter one.
Good luck, and great new truck.
