Aluminium is used not for strength on new vehicles, but for corrosion resistance and weight reduction.
You want to haul garbage and firewood - you better get flatbed or at least molded liner.
Comparing to what other members post, my aluminium bed dually is good 300lb lighter, meaning 300lb more payload than steel models.
Than still remember Dodge bed from 2001, that used over-tempered steel for bed and was cracking like crazy. I had like 200 welds on it and it kept on cracking.
