I have a 2013 Chevrolet 2500HD, with tow haul and exhaust brake enabled using cruise control start rapidly lowering the speed with the cruse control. On multiple trips to Idaho I have run without using the brakes except for coming to a complete stop, using the cruise control to increase and decrease speed. Be aware that all the braking force is on the trucks rear wheels and depending on traction you could break the rear wheels loose or have your trailer pass you.
