Gulfcoast, With your auto transmission, what gear are you decending the grades in? An exhaust brake needs engine rpm to produce better braking. With my Cummins, I use whatever gear I need to control my speed, while turning 2700 to 3000 rpm (for maximum braking). I understand that with the GM’s and Ford’s V-8 diesels, they require higher rpms. Just what I’ve heard.....never had one!
