While SOME smaller fridges are built to operate on 12 volt the majority of travel trailers have duel mode fridges (LP and 120 volt electric). Unless you have the exception when you set the fridge to electric and unplug you have basically turned the fridge off until it's plugged in again unless you turn on the LP mode. Not sure why you would NOT want the fridge running on a trip but it's your call. They're BUILT to operate on LP mode while traveling. As for the refueling issue, your fridge MAY be 20 feet from your gas filler but what about someone ELSES fuel filler tube? Just consider all the factors before deciding to turn it off or leave it on.
