DRW tires for TCs

I am researching tires to run on a dually with a 4000 lb TC. I prefer not to replace the 17"x6" wheels. I will stay with a 10 ply Load range E tire, preferably a 235/80R17/E (OEM size).

I am looking at Michelin LTX, COOPER: DISCOVERER S/T MAXX or maybe GOODYEAR: WRANGLER DURATRAC (maybe WRANGLER SR-A). All have good propaganda and few bad reviews. I lean toward the Coopers.

All of these tires will carry my load, but I am concerned with sidewall flex. Do you have any experience with any of these tires on a Dually with a TC?

  • I'm running TOYO Open Country tires on my dually and I see a lot of sidewall flex in my fronts but nothing in the backs.
  • Thanks for the input everyone. I have had a dually before only hauled a TC on it a couple of times, and that was years ago. I just do not remember if I had issues with sidewall flex.

daily double - What upgrades did you do to your suspension?

Kayteg1 - The sidewall flex can really make a difference in the ride comfort, at least it does on my SRW (19.5s)

jimh425 - I will look into the 70 instead of 80. Could be the way to go, depending on the trade offs.

  • Everyone seems to like the Michelins. I'm not sure how much difference you will see with those tires with sidewall flex. To guesstimate it, I'd look at the height and weight of the tires to see if you are noting any difference. Or, perhaps go with a 70 instead of 80 for a little less flex.

Granite breaks if you don't have it up on it's edge. It doesn't take much to break it.
  • I don't think you have to worry about flex on dually.
Actually I think I would like more flex on mine, as empty riding it horrible. It come with Wranglers and I can only wonder how much tires can help on stiff suspension.
Just yesterday broke granite slab carrying it in my truck on our terrible roads.
Michelin is trusted and long lasting brand, but the car tires suck in wet conditions, so read the reviews.
I had Discoverer on my F250 and they were really good.
Never had good luck to GY. Never bought them new, but few that come with cars gave me enough headaches to never look at the brand.
  • I have the Michelins on my DRW and like them. I have never had anything else so I can't speak to them.
