Dual AC units

We're shopping for new TT. We'll probably be upgrading to around 30ft rear living model. Is there any benefit to having main AC 15K with bedroom AC 13.5K? I was thinking of two 13.5K units since I could run either one off of my Yamaha 2400 if needed when dry camping. Dealer said manufacturer advised against two 13.5K. Just curious about this. We do live in the deep south but we generally do not camp at all in the summer and if we did would most probably be plugged in so both units could be operating.
  • On a related note, I used to own a Yamaha 2400 generator and it typically couldn't run our 13.5K BTU A/C. Once the compressor turned on, it would be too much for the generator and it would go into overload mode.

UNTIL I installed a hard start capacitor on the A/C. $15 and you can find instructions on the internet. Try your 2400 as is first, but if it won't work, check into the capacitor. It worked for me.

I ended up selling the Yamaha and going with the twin Honda EU2000's.

    dual AC's will require a 50amp setup.

Actually I run my 15k and 13.5k off a 30 amp service at the lake. I have to turn the battery charger off, and put the fridge to propane. But it does work for hours at a time.

See where I live in my sig. I have 1 x 15k unit and I camp in the summer, and there are times I'd like a second unit, but I am not going to part with the coin at this stage for those few times. There are strategies that can be used instead.

If you don't summer camp then the one 15k unit is sufficient. If you must have 2 then the 13.5k is sufficient. Just my 2 cents.

Since we all have different tolerances to heat there is no one universal answer.
  • I have two 15k A/C's in my 30 amp TT. Bedroom A/C plugs directly into 20 amp outlet. It has worked well so far. (2 years) I love my 2nd A/C. I camp at the beach a lot and one A/C could not keep up. I hate sweating in my camper.
