A short restriction in an air line doesn't restrict flow that much. A long small tube can....
There are some online calculators that will give you the flow loss for a short restriction. For long tubes the flow is proportional to something like D^4 so a little bit bigger does a lot.
On a ping tank, some restriction might actually be beneficial as it would add to dampening. If I put them in I would make sure there's a valve in there, first for reliability (you could shut it in the event of a leak in the tank) and second to experiment with flow restriction.
