Well I'm in the process of fixing it so I can have another 1/2" on each side. I talked to Happijac today to see if I could use longer bolts. The bolts on the bracket side are a plow bolt like they use on snow plows. It is flat headed and beveled and then a square before the threads start (I'm sure there is a better name for them). So I took one jack off and took the swing out off and the took it apart. The bolts on the bracket that is anodized just has the bolts loose in it. They are 1" so I went to Fastenal and they didn't have any in stock so they ordered in 8 (a couple of extras) 1.5" grade 5 bolts in zinc the same as the originals. Well be here Friday. I then asked if they had any aluminum flat stock there and they did. The fellow told me they were getting out of it but he had 1.5"X.25" stock. This is the width that I needed. Then to top it all off he had a power hacksaw there so I asked if he would cut it for me so he did.
So now I have 4 1.5"X.25" 16.5" long pieces of aluminum. This is the width that I needed. This well give me another .5" per side. So with what I had already and the .5" addition, this well give me about 1.25" per side. This I can live with.
Looks like my problem is solved. I want to thank everybody for their suggestions. It made me look closer at it and then the light bulb came on.
