ducted vs non ducted ac

One of the TT we are looking at is an Apex 215rbk. It does not come with ducted ac. I really like the looks of this feature although I have never used a TT with ducted ac. Our 2007 Aerolite ac is very loud and we camp in warm area so use it alot. Are the newer non ducted units quieter? Should I just look at ducted? Any experience with the Apex 215rbk ac?

I did a search and found some info ...looking for more. Thanks

  • Definitely ducted. We had a ROO 23SS HTT with ducted. Quiet, pretty much eliminated hot/cold spots, very effective. Our camping buddies had a Shamrock 19 HTT with NON-ducted. Noisy, it would almost blow you off the dinette seats, but the rear bunkend and bathroom were miserably uncomfortable. Remember that with ducted, if you choose to, you can just slide the openings in the ceiling panel open or closed, whichever you want at the time. Our Rocky has ducted 15K. Definitely ducted.
  • We have a ducted and a none ducted AC unit. When the air is all forced into the ducts it's a little quieter but it seems to reduce the total air flow having to pushing all that air through the ducts. In a "smaller" unit with an open floor plan ducting is not required. The longer the trailer gets and the more rooms it's divided into, ducting becomes a requirement to try and get the AC to both ends. Noise seems to be more an issue of the particular brand/model of AC unit. The faster the air flows, the louder they seem to get.
  • I had a Starcraft Hybrid with regular air and now have an Airstream with the same. Boy, are they loud. My cousin has an Arctic Fox with the ducted system and it is quiet, like house quiet. I don't know enough about all ducted systems and I am pretty sure that some are better than others but if it is quiet you want, go ducted.

Airstream by the way now has ducted air in their 2015 models, but not all as I understand.
  • Ducted is quieter but I would think in a 21 foot rig you would not need ducted JMHO
  • I have ducted now but my last TT didn't and seemed to cool much better.
  • would not have a TT without ducted air to move through out! Might work if it was a real open floor plan. But non-ducted would not work very well in ours with the way the bathroon/bedroom are set up as seperate rooms.
