Since we never use our microwave in the trailer, I decided to remove it. I ordered a door large enough to cover the opening from the dealer I bought the trailer from. Took five minutes to yank the micro. The additional storage is mind blowing! One thing I didn't expect was the wire for the hood coming right out of the middle of the ceiling in the cabinet dropping into the top of the range hood. Had to do a little extending and re-routing. I will need to tidy up the interior of the cabinet with some shelving liner and a piece of paneling on the right side wall of the cabinet. Overall this was a real easy mod that only cost $60.00 for the door including the hardware.
You must not travel or have kids.
We use our microwave, A LOT.
We have never used our oven but a microwave, it really comes in handy for warming up premade meals while traveling.. We stop at rest stops or even parking lots and fire up the genny..
Just 2 minutes each we have a piping hot meals..
No long waits in "fast food" restaurants, no hit or miss quality of restaurants, no expense of restaurants.. Not to mention not having to deal with tight parking or bad placement of restaurant parking..
Even while camping, we will make extra food for one meal, then the next day we simply pop the leftovers into the microwave, and in several minutes we have a very fast high quality meal..
Far, far cheaper than paying a restaurant price.
Example, I can buy a good steak at Sam's club for $6 per lb.. Go to a restaurant and order a 6 oz steak.. That restaurant steak will cost you $10 for 6 oz.. Or about $28 per lb..
Now days most folks WILL want a microwave so you might wish to store it and then if you want to sell your RV put it back in..
Well, actually we ran a Nomad Bunkhouse model into the ground we traveled so much. It had a micro. We just used it for storage. We raised two kids traveling with us and prepared every meal out of the fridge fresh cause one of my kids is deathly allergic to dairy products. There are not many pre-prepared meals that don't have dairy in them or some sort of cross contamination with dairy at the processing plant where it would be made. We actually don't use the microwave at home so we couldn't possibly miss it camping. The other thing is we normally camp where there is no hook-ups. We are just real used to cooking the old fashioned way.....With a BBQ!
