Dump the Micro-wave

Since we never use our microwave in the trailer, I decided to remove it. I ordered a door large enough to cover the opening from the dealer I bought the trailer from. Took five minutes to yank the micro. The additional storage is mind blowing! One thing I didn't expect was the wire for the hood coming right out of the middle of the ceiling in the cabinet dropping into the top of the range hood. Had to do a little extending and re-routing. I will need to tidy up the interior of the cabinet with some shelving liner and a piece of paneling on the right side wall of the cabinet. Overall this was a real easy mod that only cost $60.00 for the door including the hardware.

  • We never camp by electric so for me I wanted to take it out and sell it.But DW is worried about resale. As if she would let me buy a new TC. :B
  • We do use ours for storage. Also use it to heat food. Runs fine plugged in or not.

Now the propane oven.... that could go.
  • I would sure like the additional space but our microwave is also a convection oven and my DW would not agree in any way, shape, or form to it's permanent removal. When it had it's swan song last year, I removed it and could not believe the amount of space that could be available. All for not as we received it's replacement a few days later. Enjoy your new found storage.

My off-road POPUP trailer didn't come with a microwave but we camp alot OFF-ROAD and really like to have one. We got one of the $35 WALMART Low Wattage whiteface manual type microwaves that works pretty well with our Battery/Inverter/Generator setup for short two-three minute coffee warm up or 5-minute baked potatoes etc...

  • We've had our trailer 1 1/2 years, only thing we use microwave for is storage... I like your idea, I may try to check with the manufacturer to see if cabinet doors are available.
  • Well, since we are nearly never plugged into shore power, ours just sat there and looked dead.
  • Our microwave front panel is mainly used as a timer for our percolator coffee.
