102K? Wow, that is an early death. Sorry to hear about that. Especially since I also own an LLY. If you like the truck I'd just find a good shop to rebuild the engine with some nice parts for a bit more power and reliability.
Mine's at 166,000 miles with very few problems. New water pump at 150K, tightened two leaking injectors, new slip yoke, new tie rod ends. That's it. It's a work truck and pulls and hauls every day.
I've personally found a big advantage in buying diesel. I have an 8.1L dually but it costs a lot more to drive because of the worse fuel mileage.
