sucks to hear but sometimes things happen. your right we should have let gm go under because your truck broke. take this and learn from it. do an oil analysis on your vehicles more often in the future. in my opinion this could have been avoided with early detection in the tests. but just because your motor broke, doesn't mean all diesels are now garbage. don't spread stuff like that, better ways to go about telling potential/future owners of diesel trucks that maintenance is important. no offence, but maybe diesel wasn't a good choice for you personally.
I have no dog in this fight but I don't think it's the owner's responsibility, diesel, gas, or other, to have frequent oil analysis performed. If Enthusiast X chooses to, that's great, but I don't see this as the OP's fault in any way, shape, or form.
Duramaxes are terrific engines; this just proves that anything that moves & man-made can and will break.
I agree with you that OA's are just a tool like any other and is not required by a person to use. I think 6dot6 was just pointing out that it would have been a way to detect this and should be considered. Though I disagree with the slight dig at the end of the post.
OP I am sorry you are having those issues. I agree with some of the others that you should see about fixing it and put this behind you. At 102k the truck should be worth keeping, I would think.
