The closed systems are mainly to address issues with getting O2 into a cooling
system filled with OATs and HOATs.
I'm the type that has to check my coolant...so the pressurized over flow bottle
is made for my type...and remove the radiator cap on some
There is more to it and has to do with how the whole cooling system is designed
The types of metals in contact, the amount of contact, if there is electrical
(voltage and/or current)
The metalized coolant then makes the circuit and it will degrade much faster
than without electrical flow
Why some makes seemingly do not have problems, or that even with the same badge
only certain models or engines have this issue
Galvanic action is tough to predict
A flash light battery's chemical process is also a form galvanic action...zinc
is the sacrificial metal to the cathodic.
The engine need not be running, nor the ignition key turned on for this to happen
It becomes a closed circuit (the electron pathway) where one metal is sacrificial or corrode preferentially (the ion pathway) to create current flow
So there are two issues with any OATs and HOATs system. The O2 and the acid in
the coolant is one. Other is the battery inside the system with the coolant as
the electrical contact vehicle (wire).
