I would not buy a junk yard engine you will probably end up with the same problem.
That's funny because I'm under the impression that the 6.7 Cummins has forced more owners to throw away their EGR coolers/valves, turbos and DPF's. Then install a tuner to compensate for the lack of these items, and then paying the piper with a new head gasket job! :S
Don't blame emissions and government regulation on the manufacturer in these cases. They didn't want to put all that junk on the engine.
At any rate. Any engine gas/diesel/electric will eventually have an issue. Only question is when.
