I'd rather do a complete engine swap in a gas engine than pull the heads on a modern diesel.
Thats actually pretty much spot on what anyone, dealer or oterwise will charge to pull the heads. There is a local shop that will do it for $4,500 but thats just pulling heads and replacing gaskets.
