Tell you what you do, go to your local parts house and tell them you want a thermostat for a 2003 Ford Ranger with a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder gas motor in it and then report back here on your findings. While you are at it tell them you also need a rear axle seal for a 2005 Nissan Titan 2wd.;)
They all have high priced parts. The tires on my car are $500 EACH. Knew it when I bought it.
I found your thermostat with fancy housing for $97.79 and the rear axle seal for $9.74. You're right, every vehicle has got expensive parts on it, the OEM shock absorbers for the Autoride system in my truck are $250 EACH. That's why I removed them, bypassed the system, and installed KYBs. I just paid $134 for a window regulator with motor for my daughters 98 Grand Prix last night.
These are annoyances and like complaining about a loaf of bread going up a nickel compared to a $5000 repair . Heck, that's double what a new transmission would cost! Not sure about prices but you can get an LLY crate motor.
You forget, you have to have that tranny installed also.
