You would still have about $1500+ on top of that though for labor and shop materials.
You guys are crazy. You still have to strip off all the accessories from the old motor and re-install on the new one. Ain't no body going to pull his motor, switch everything over and re-install the new one with $1500 in labor.
Not sure what the labor rates are in your area but, here it's $65.00 per hour at the Chrysler dealer I go to. So if you claim to have done it in 21 hours $1500 would give you $71.00 per hour. That's more then my dealer charges so tell me why I'm crazy? So even if it cost him $2000 in labor he is getting a complete engine with a 3/36 warranty not a 90 day or maybe a 12/12 if he's lucky.
Now you need to verify that the re-builder does cover labor if it needs to be repaired or replaced under warranty. BTW all you gassier boys out there bashing the cost, call your local Ford dealer and find out what a head gasket on your Ego-Boost will cost. Then come back and tell us, hint it's the same.
Don
You don't have to preach cost's to me because I'm a coal burner also. The Labor for diesel repair here is $108 per hour at the Ford dealer and ranges from $100-$125 at well know diesel shops.
If you will re-read my post above with the quote you will see I did a 6.0 head job in 21 hrs not counting the machine work. I said nothing about changing motors in 21 hours. There is a lot more stuff involved in changing motors than putting on head gaskets.
