Are you assuming it is a belt driven water pump? For what ever reason pump seals were toasted. Prior to pump replacement water put into the coolant reservoir ran right into the pan. Once pump was replaced problem solved. Appears there is a direct link when seals are gone.
Much as I hate to admit it being a ford guy truck now runs like a raped ape.
