I have yet to see a Duramax or a Power Stroke for that matter that will give me the mileage per gallon on the longevity in miles or years that a Cummins will and I have run them all.
My 24 valve cummins while not being the engine my 12 valve was is still a better buy than any V-8 diesel and less costly to own.
Now,I may need to keep my old 2006 Dodge to keep making these statements and so be it as it is so cheap to own in relation to repairs and fuel mileage and gives me all the power I could ask for and no hefty monthly payments like the newer duramax or power strokes.
It's still in near new condition at 233K so I'll keep it and spend that savings on something worthwhile.
OK,go ahead and hammer me now,I can take it.
LOL... And you conveniently left out the 6.7 cummins with the emissions equipment. BTW... I new ram will provide the same monthly payment too. :R- alaska315ExplorerI have yet to see a Duramax or a Power Stroke for that matter that will give me the mileage per gallon or the longevity in miles or years that a Cummins will and I have run them all.

The horsepower/torque race is becoming insane. I'm leaning toward a Ram 2500/3500 for my next truck, and the "base" Cummins engine with a measly 370hp/800 torque is way more than my needs will require. Heck, my dad's old 7.3 Powerstroke with just 255/525 does a decent job of pulling 12K, that's really all I need.
Get the 3500 with Aisin tranny. Larger trailers just seem to happen. Chris - The horsepower/torque race is becoming insane. - Me_AgainExplorer IIIWant to win a race, have more HP. Want to get a heavy load moving, have more torque.
Chris - KD4UPLExplorer IIWhile I love a good horse power war I'll trade 100 HP and 200 lb/ft for 5 mpg any day.
- BB_TXNomadActually co-king. Slightly more hp but slightly less torque than Ford. Never ending battle of one up-man-ship. Look for Ram to be next on top. Followed by Ford. Followed by GM. Followed by .....Ad nauseum.
