Having the same truck, sure hate to hear of your problems and being far from home always seems to compound the problem.
Being at least a year and 15000 miles out of warranty, it would have been nice of Gm to help but I understand their position.
Having the same truck, I don't believe this is the "recommended interval" for fuel filter. I use the fuel monitor and usually change it at 20%.
To avoid a long story, last year truck went into a reduced power mode about 6 miles after refueling. Turned out it was a plugged fuel filter, the fuel monitor reading 0%.
I now keep fuel receipt until next fill up.

I have always used OEM fuel filters and changed them at the recommended 15k mile intervals.
