I have a 2012 that is a daily driver and my commute is less than 3mi. The problem you may run into is not being able to complete a regen cycle if you dont have any longer trips worked in. To help I would recommend picking up an Edge Insight CTS monitor as you will be able to tell when a regen cycle is coming and try to plan accordingly. After you become familiar with regen cycles its not that big of a deal.
As far as letting the truck warm up in the winter I only let it idle until the high idle drops back down to normal idle. These motors literally take forever to warm up if sitting parked. All your doing is burning fuel. Wait for the high idle to drop then just drive the truck with a light foot until it starts coming up to temp. They warm up much faster once moving compared to being parked at idle.
