I've been there. If my old truck had been 4X4 I'd probably still have it and just deal with the high RPM. But, several other factors crossed together and it became time to sell the gasser and go diesel. I gained a lot of features and capacity I didn't have before, most importantly the ability to upgrade to the 5er I wanted.
Rest assured, even though the GM 6.0L small block will scream on hills, they are rock solid reliable and will get you there every time. Just let the engine sing and do it's job as long as you're towing within the capacity of the truck.
