I'd take the Duramax over the Cummins....possibly even over the Powerstroke. They are all three pretty fantastic engines .... I just think the Cummins is a little less refined than the other two. In a tractor, I'd pick the Cummins.

Refined I agree but basic dependable is more important to me. The DMax would be my second choice without a doubt!!!

We have a F650 dump truck in our fleet that has a 5.9 Cummins with an Ally trans and I have to say it is one tough truck. I have seen it many times stalled out in soft ground. The trans is definitely tough. The GVWR on the truck is 26,000 and I have personally haul gravel with it grossing over 38,000. Needless to say the bed is bigger than what it should be. LOL

Well I don't tow at 75mph.. I suppose I could, I have gotten there a couple of times passing etc. Third Duramax and I do like them. No issues and they work well. Could not get a Ford with a Cummings and a Allison transmission.. Settled for the Chevy, not disappointed.

Kind of depends on the details. At 1800 rpm the '16 Duramax would struggle to pull a 4000 lbs trailer up a 6% grade at 75mph...but a 2017 Duramax should tow a 13000 lb trailer up a 4% grade at 1800 rpm and 75 mph.

I know a heavy equipment operator that ran down the road at 40K gcw with a mid 00 4500! those were only rated to 26K gcwr. Going over manufactures gcwr is not uncommmon. ALong with being legal mind you!

Just ruffling a few feathers, LOL I know the laws and know you can gross 80,000 without permit if you can get all the axles right. I've had over 30,000 behind my 6.0 F350 and the truck by itself is 12,000. That's over 42,000 gross on a 2005 sick-o. It's a well known fact with all of us gear heads like you and me that all three will be pretty dang close at the end of the work week. It gets pretty boring with all these "this truck is better this year" threads so we have to keep them interesting. haha

So are the tires on my 5rv wheel (75 mph) and I tow at 62-65.

I was pointing out that OP should look at what his trailer tires are rated for vs bragging about flying down the hwy.

I can easily tow my 14K 5vr at 75.......but my tries are rated for that speed.
OP's aren't, OP didn't know, OP has not checked, OP ---well who knows?
I just tried to prompt OP to investigate HIS tire rating.
